Party or no Party
My daughter is turning one next month and I am seriously debating whether or not to have a big birthday party for her. I have mixed feelings. On one hand I want to have a party because it would be fun to plan and bake all the delicious food people can compliment me on, haha, but on the other hand she would not have any idea what is going on. I also don’t really think she needs presents or any more toys, she does however LOVE board books. Would it be weird to put on the invite no presents or board books only? (except in a more politically correct way)
I personally love going to first birthday parties just to watch the kids devour the cake, but I have also been to some and the kids won’t even touch the cake, and I feel like I never really get the birthday rush I am craving….What if she won’t touch the cake and her guests feel that same way?!!! See what I mean! It is very confusing.
What are your feelings on first birthdays, did you have one for your baby? I also need cake flavor ideas because she will be getting on of those regardless and I want her to love it!

You crack me up Joelle! I think you should do the party and just put on the invite "no presents." Even if she doesnt go for the cake, it could be fun to just get together for the adults 🙂
May be lame..but we did cupcakes. Easy but delicious. Not too much for a 1 yr old to devour and not too intimidating. I can't believe she is one. Holy cow. I think you could do the present thing about board books. Board books are affordable and that way people don't have to figure out what special toy to get her. We love board books too. Good luck with it all 🙂
You have to do a party! Yes, it will mean nothing to her, but it makes for the best pictures for you to remember the celebration of your baby turning one! I wouldn't say no presents or anything-maybe say, "Savannah loves board books" or something. Or ask guests to bring a board book with a special message for Savannah instead of a present.
birthday rush? wha..? I personally don't give a crap if the bday kid eats the cake or not. as long as there is cake for ME! that's where i get my bday rush! a first bday is all about pictures and hangin' out with YOUR friends. do it while you can.
BIRTHDAY PARTY=A MUST!!!!!!!!!! And I don't care what you put on the invites…i will bring a present 🙂
PARTY! We had one for G and it was crazy and stressful and it was grander in my head but it was a blast and you'll never get a chance to throw here another first birthday party. P.S. I think Just board books would be a great idea!

I'm not sure if we're having a party for Evan… just because a lot of his little friends will be moving before then, so I guess we'll just have to make more friends! -Rachel
Have the party for fun! For adults, as an excuse to make lots of pretty food and eat a ton! And you can say whatever you want! I always tell my family books only. They are expensive and timeless and very entertaining. Who cares if people roll their eyes. It's what you and Savannah want and like. And by the way, you amaze me! Wish we lived closer so I could come try your deletable food!- Abby
